Ok. I've caught us all up to last week now. I hope it hasn't been too confusing up till now.
I got a call from Wonderful Jessica a couple days after I faxed her the info from Dr.Keefe. She had been out of town I guess, but she's back on the case now and the insurance people need more recent x-rays. That's what happens when you have to wait three months to see a specialist. (Which by the way I'm still not convinced is any kind of norm. Has anyone else had this problem?) So I'm scheduled to come in the next day for a quick visit. Wonderful Jessica is ready as soon as I walk in the door and now it begins. She asks if I'm ready to make my down payment. What a wonderful feeling. Now I'm committed. No backing out. Let's roll! I get all set up and she hands me off to one of the technicians, Kari. We do some panographs and make some impressions. That paste tastes way better now than I remember. And within 15 minutes I'm free to go. Now I'm waiting for word from Wonderful Jessica to set up a time with my OS to be.

Hey everyone. I'm a 30 year old who just finished his journey through orthognathic surgery. I've found a lot of people with their own blogs and they've helped me in my decision and understanding of the procedure, so I thought if I could help someone else why not? Hope this helps you.

I think the paste is better and have you noticed how fast it dries?! I remember having to sit there with those trays in my mouth for 5 minutes (it felt like an hour) and now they set in less than a minute. Yay for dental advancements!
You asked if something was normal -- do you mean is it normal to have to wait so long to see a specialist? I think it can vary based on the health system. I have a PPO, so I don't have to get referrals. I basically just had to find a surgeon and make an appointment but I think I had to wait about 2 months for him to see me.
Things didn't move very quickly after that but I blame my orthodontist's office (er, EX-orthodontist). So, it took a few more months for things to get going. I also got sent to an ENT because my orthodontist felt I should have any breathing problems resolved before fixing my teeth. He ended up saying things were OK to proceed. Now if my original orthodontists (as a kid) had looked into this, it might not have gotten as bad as it did. Maybe my jaw could have been more stable. Oh well, I am where I am and I'm going to have a nice set of teeth!
Looking forward to hearing more. Do you know when you might get your braces? Do you think you'll go with the metal, or ceramic?
Congrats to you Chris for making the decision to move forward, I'm sure this will end up being one of the best decisions of your life. You will see sooo many benefits as you move forward and just get ready for the millions of people who question why you are having surgery! Most will say, "oh your teeth were fine, I don't know what you were thinking!"
I have a wonderful Ortho Office, they were very speedy with scheduling office visits, now the OS was a different situation, I called for my evaluation early in December 06, and didn't have my SARPE Surgery till April 07. This is probably quicker than some have experienced but I do not have insurance, so I would have thought they could have moved things much faster. They seemed to have trouble with pre-planning appointments, nothing seemed smooth. But the good thing was they are great people and a wonderful surgeon, thank God for that!
